Our club meets on Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm and Saturdays from 11.00am

Anyone interested in playing petanque is welcome to come and try their hand with us.

We play socially and also competitively in both local Summer and Winter Herts and Essex leagues, as well as regional and open competitions throughout the year.

History:

The club was founded in January 1990 with a nucleus of players from a local French language class. We were granted part of the car park at the Queen Victoria pub in Theydon Bois to establish a new terrain, and this became our home for the next 25 years.

However following a refurbishment at the pub early in 2015, the brewery asked for their parking spaces back, and we were effectively then homeless, During the refurbishment several members had played at the nearby Gardens of Hanbury in High Beech. The trust that runs the facility then kindly invited the club to rehouse there in the Summer of 2015, and donated the use of the main arena for conversion to a new terrain.

At that point, the Vics became Hanbury Petanque Club. As from 2016 we are now proud to announce we are open for business once again and look forward to hosting competitions.

Club Successes:

The club won the National Clubs League in 2003 and had a brief life in the European Clubs Cup competition in 2004, losing out in the first round to the Dutch team from Uden.

We are proud to have fielded players of proven international ranking in the past. Patrick Dennis and Dean Little. Patrick Dennis played in several Grand Prix and other top events; Dean represented Great Britain in the 1997 Junior World Championship team in Geneva and subsequently played in many major national events.

Most recently we have had success with our juniors, with Sam Mellen, Sean Daisley, Gavin and Chris Wilmot all part of the EPA Junior national squad. Sam represented England at the 2014 European Championships, and Chris at the 2015 World Championships in Thailand.
